emote
To emote is to show emotion, especially in a dramatic or obvious way. People say it when someone is acting out feelings rather than holding them in.
What a model may hear
- Twitch/Discord chat command streaming platforms and chat protocols
- interpret it as a slash command or custom emoji trigger, possibly executing or listing available emotes
- Unicode emoji or emoticon text encoding and messaging standards
- assume the user wants emoji insertion, Unicode conversion, or emoticon parsing
- Roleplay action marker MUDs, MMORPGs, and online roleplaying games
- expect third-person descriptive text in asterisks or slashes, like *sighs* or /me waves
- Animation state in game engines Unity, Unreal Engine, and 3D development
- retrieve or trigger character animation clips labeled as emotes (dances, gestures, celebrations)
Where people and models part ways
“I need to emote better”
Meant: I want to express my feelings more openly
May be taken as: The model suggests Twitch emote subscriptions or Discord nitro features
Say instead: “I want to be more open about my feelings in conversations”
“What emotes do I have?”
Meant: What feelings am I capable of showing?
May be taken as: The model lists available chat commands or game animations
Say instead: “What emotional expressions feel natural to me?”
“Add an emote here”
Meant: Make this part more emotionally vivid
May be taken as: The model inserts emoji or proposes custom emote uploads
Say instead: “Make this scene show more feeling through description”
“The emote broke”
Meant: My emotional display felt wrong or failed
May be taken as: The model troubleshoots animation files or chat command syntax
Say instead: “My attempt to show emotion came across wrong”
Tips
- Say 'show emotion' or 'express feelings' if you do not want gaming or streaming results
- Specify the platform name when you do want chat or game emotes
- Use asterisks or /me only if you want roleplay-style action descriptions
- Say 'emoji' or 'emoticon' if that is what you actually want inserted
- In creative writing contexts, say 'emotional beat' or 'reaction' to avoid animation references
Often confused with
- emoji
- a specific pictograph character, not an action
- emoticon
- text-based faces like :-), not behavior
- emote command
- the explicit slash syntax in chat systems
- animation
- any movement, not only expressive gesture
- empathize
- understanding others' feelings, not displaying your own
- emote port
- no standard port 1 association; the number here is branding
